All work and no play makes johnny a dull employee
I’ve commented on this before, but it bears repeating. A recent study shows that Americans are afraid to use all their vacation days. And we don’t get that many to begin with. Now, maybe this isn’t such surprising news, given how much fear people have for their jobs in general these days. But this has been going on since well before the great recession. We don’t value downtime in this country. And that’s a mistake. Not only is it good for our health and mental well-being, it’s can also make us better workers. Allowing people to refresh every so often will make them more engaged, enthusiastic and creative. But hell, this is America, dammit. Stop goofing off on the Internet and get back to work already.
